Winter Tire Care

There is probably a driver who prefer to drive in winter conditions. Mud, constant moisture traps in the form of slush, ice and hidden under the snow defects in the surface – this is the reality with which all car owners are struggling through the winter months. It is also particularly difficult for tires, which in winter they require far more attention.

Winter Tire Care

Studies show Michelin – incorrect tire pressure is the greatest sin and neglect the most common Polish drivers. Michelin reports that 60 percent. of them moving cars with abnormal air pressure in the tires. On the other hand, according to public opinion polls for the Polish Association of the Tyre Industry shows that only 39 per cent. driver checks the tire pressure from time to time, 9 percent. before long journey, up 5 percent. never, and 41 per cent. do not even realize that too low tire pressure results in worse control of the vehicle. Meanwhile, using the „eye” we are not able to assess the pressure drop by up to 30 per cent., Which is close to 1 bar – it is necessary to use the compressor.

Control Strait

This seemingly insignificant aspect of exploitation is of great importance not only for the economy but also for safety. Driving on tires with incorrect pressure accelerates wear, causes increased rolling resistance, and thus increases the appetite of the car fuel, and primarily affects the proper functioning of the tire.

Remember that tire pressure should be checked regularly, at least once a month and before any further journey. The degree of inflated tires shall be compatible with both the manufacturers’ recommendations, and adapted to the current vehicle load. In winter this is particularly important because the lower the outdoor temperature causes a drop in tire pressure by 0.2 bar at 0 ° C, 0.3 bar at 10 ° C and up to 0.4 bar at -20 ° C.
