Mirror glass replacement

Mirror glass replacement

The side mirrors increase the driving safety. The traffic code obliges the drives to have a side mirror at least on the driver's side. If necessary, you can replace an entire mirror or just the inner glass, depending on the extent of the damages. Modern mirrors are covered with a photochromatic layer which concentrates and dampens the light beam to prevent if from diffusing and blinding the driver. Remember to choose the right mirror glass for your car model.

Tips

  • Avoid buying cheap products - they may distort the reflected image
  • In order for the mirror image to be as close to reality as possible, the mirror glass should be identical on both sides
  • Replacing the mirror glass is only seemingly easy, therefore, you should have it done by a professional garage

Additional info about the service

Mirror glass replacement

A mirror glass comes with a backing panel, usually made of plastic. When it breaks, falls out, becomes tarnished or is otherwise damaged, you don't have to replace the entire mirror but only its glass.

How is a mirror glass replaced?

When buying a new mirror glass make sure that it fits your car in terms of parameters, shape, size and the method of installation. Pay attention to whether it’s tinted, heated or has an aspherical surface. Removing a damaged mirror glass does not require removing the mirror from the car. All you have to do is gently lift up the glass or remove the mirror housing and unfasten the special wire clips. A new glass is fitted in the reverse order.

What to keep in mind?

If your mirror is a heated one, remember to connect the appropriate cables to the backing panel. Remember that rear view mirrors are there for your safety, and that driving with a cracked or tarnished mirror is a violation of the traffic law.
