Piston pin replacement

Piston pins join the pistons and the connecting rods. A pin failure results in play, increases the noise generated by the engine making it less effective and accelerating its wear. Piston pin replacement is not complicated, however, accessing them requires dissembling numerous other engine components in order to remove the pistons from the cylinders.

Tips

  • Disturbing clatter and engine power loss are a sign that a piston pin has failed
  • When replacing a pin you should have the other engine elements removed for this purpose checked for damages
