The clutch pedal sensor informs the engine computer that the engine will be relieved, i.e. less fuel will be injected into it and its speed will be reduced following pressing the clutch pedal, all to ensure smooth gear change. The sensor cooperates with the cruise control, which is switched off following pressing the clutch. Its failure disables the cruise control. Some cars, especially the newer ones, require pressing he clutch pedal to start the engine.
