Header panel replacement

Header panel replacement

The front cross member connects the ends of the front side members. It carries the headlights, the radiator, the front bumper and many other, smaller components. If it is damaged as a result of a collision or corrosion, it must be changed.

Tips

  • After changing the front cross member adjust the headlights
  • After changing the front cross member check if the hood closes properly (the hood lock is fitted on the front cross member)

Scope of services

  • removing the elements connected to the front cross member (the bumper, the mudguards, wheel arches, headlights, indicator lights)
  • disconnecting the electrical cables
  • removing the radiator and the windscreen washer tank
  • removing the front cross member
  • drilling out the welds connecting the front cross member to the side members
  • fitting a new front cross member in and marking the location of the previous welds
  • welding the new front cross member in, making sure that the new welds are exactly where the previous ones were
  • polishing the welding spots
  • covering the welds with a filler
  • polishing and painting the spots covered with the filler
  • fitting the radiator and the windscreen washer tank back in place
  • reconnecting the electrical cables
  • fitting the bumper, the mudguards, wheel arches, headlights, indicator lights onto the new front cross member
