Rear panel replacement

The rear cross member connects the ends of the rear side members. It carries the rear lights, the rear bumper and many other, smaller components. If it is damaged as a result of a collision or corrosion, it must be changed.

Tips

  • Make sure that all the components are fitted in properly to prevent water from leaking into the cabin

Scope of services

  • removing the components connected to the rear cross member (the bumper, the lights, the exhaust system elements, the towbar)
  • removing the rear cross member
  • drilling out the welds connecting the rear cross member to the side members and the wheel arches
  • fitting a new rear cross member in and marking the location of the previous welds
  • welding the new rear cross member in, making sure that the new welds are exactly where the previous ones were
  • polishing the welding spots
  • covering the welds with a filler
  • polishing and painting the spots covered with the filler
  • fitting the bumper, the lights, the exhaust system elements and the towbar onto the new rear cross member
