Welding or patching up a damper is a temporary solution. Before the repair you should check if only the silencer casing is corroded as most silencers corrode from the inside as a result of water condensation. The less often you use your car, the more likely the damper is to suffer from corrosion. There are a few rules to follow when it comes to repairing it. If possible, the damper should be removed before repair.
Welding of exhaust system elements is only a temporary solution and will not last more than a few months * The damper mountings under the chassis are easy to replace.
