Head facing

Head facing

The cylinder head is that element of the engine which closes off the combustion chamber. It adheres tightly to the engine block. The surface of the cylinder head may become deformed and lose its integrity due to high temperatures, lack of coolant or water pump damage. Therefore, each time it is removed, the head should be refaced, i.e. its surface adhering to the engine block should be evened out with precision.

Tips

  • Each time it is removed, the cylinder head must be refaced
  • Refacing is a must after you have the cylinder head gasket replaced
