Replacement of cooling system hoses

Replacement of cooling system hoses

The cooling system hoses should be replaced when recommended by the manufacturer or when their technical condition (inspected visually) requires so. The hoses distribute the coolant to the particular elements of the system, such as the thermostat, the radiator and the heater. The coolant (glycol-based) takes the heat produced by the engine and is pumped thorough the hoses into the radiator, which is responsible for decreasing its temperature. After cooling, the coolant is transported back to the engine to decrease its temperature. The cooling system hoses and the radiator are also used to heat the car interior. Damage to any of the hoses may cause the coolant to leak, resulting in engine seizure.

Tips

  • Have the cooling system hoses replaced in accordance with the manufacturers’ recommendations and each time you discover any micro cracks on them
  • Don't forget to have the coolant changed each time you have the hoses replaced
  • Observe the coolant changing schedule
  • Never fill the cooling system with water
  • Monitor the engine temperature on the dashboard
  • Pay attention to whether the radiator fan turns on

Scope of services

  • Releasing the coolant by removing the drain plug or the hose located in the bottom part of the radiator
  • Removing the elements holding the hoses
  • Removing the hoses
  • Fitting new hoses and holding elements
  • Refilling the system with fresh coolant
