Intake system repair
The role of the inlet system is to provide the engine with filtered air needed for fuel combustion. A malfunctioning inlet system affects engine operation and car performance. Air bypassing the filter and entering the cylinders directly may contaminate them and cause a serious engine failure. Each malfunctioning element of the inlet system should be repaired or replaced as soon as possible. Repairing the system is a complex task.
Tips
- A leaking inlet system results in an uneven operation of the engine in neutral gear, its poorer performance in general and a hissing sound coming out of the manifold
- In turbo diesel engines even small leaks in the inlet system may cause quicker wear of or damage to the turbocharger
- When having the inlet system repaired a good idea is also to have the air filter checked and replaced, if necessary - a clogged filter results in a higher fuel consumption
